My 8th Week @ JAMN 94.5

This week at JAMN things were pretty much the same as they have been. I've been podcasting regularly, I've been submitting my ideas and facebook statuses, and I've also been submitting "List" ideas for Santi. The "list" is a segment Santi does every morning. Typically the list is a step by step process of something, or just a funny simple list about things that happen in life. For example, one of the list I submitted today was "Most Tweeted About Thanks Giving Foods". Santi has used 2 or 3 of my list, which is pretty exciting. Today I asked him if I am going in the right direction with my discussion ideas and list and he told me he loves them so that's a good thing.

Even though I feel a little stuck, today I emailed Santi and asked him if I can continue my internship with them. I truly do enjoy my time there and I absolutely love JAMN. I am aware that in order to reach success one must be patient and persistent. I;ve been with iHeat Media (clearchannel) since May and I would love to stay for another semester to see what happened.

My 7th Week @ JAMN 94.5

So this week I only came in on Thursday as well because I had many projects and things to take care of at school. I notified Justin & Santi on Monday morning asking them if it was okay and they both approved. Today I did pod casting and came up with discussion Ideas for the show. I'm not going to lie, it's kind of depressing to come in after Monster Jam knowing that I could have gone but I didn't. Either way, I'm glad that it went well for the station and I hope the concerts continue being successful in the future.

On the bright side, at the end of my shift today Santi let me know that he used one of my idead for an entire segment last week so that's very exciting!

My 6th Week @ JAMN 94.5

This week I only came in on Thursday because I lost my wallet and had no way to get here because my charlie card and money was in the stolen wallet. I communicated that to Justin and everyone in the station was very understanding. When I did come in, all I did was podcast the on-air segments and that's pretty much it.

This week was pretty slow. Although I enjoy my time here at JAMN, I feel like I have way more to offer. I wish I can do more than just pod-casting. Today I also found out that I am no longer going to be helping out at Monster Jam (neither are any of the other interns). I asked Santi why and he answered that because they are now having Monster Jam at a new location, this venue is very strict and doesn't allow interns there.

Receiving this news is very sad to me, because right when I thought I was going to do something exciting, the opportunity disappears :(

My 5th Week @ JAMN 94.5

This week at JAMN has been a little slow. I'm kind of getting bored of podcasting, handling the ticket give-away, and submitting ideas. I wish there was something more that I can do. I would like to show my talent more. This week I was introduced to Ashlee, she was an intern 4 years ago. Her & I share an office now and she handles all the phone calls and I only take care of the podcasting now. She is a full time employee here at the station. I guess you could say she is someone I look up too because she was in my position four years ago. Now that I will only be podcasting & submitting ideas, I will make sure to give more ideas and better ideas. There is no room for errors. I have also been following my "goal chart" perfectly, which hopefully that will allow me to get noticed. This week Santi sent out an email so I can help out at Monster Jam, so that's what I will be looking out for during week 6 :)

My Fourth Week @ JAMN 94.5

My fourth week at JAMN 94.5 has been good. I already have a set routine for the way I do things and I feel quite comfortable .This week consisted of the same old podcasting and ticket give-away. Like I mentioned before, I am here on Tuesdays & Thursdays, so if  you want to listen to what I do, check out all of the Tuesday & Thursdays podcast online. Also, last week I created a Goal Chart that includes a step-by-step guide to accomplish my goal here at JAMN. I have it posted on my internship binder, and the bulletin board in my room. I started following my guide on Thursday and I felt grate about it. As part of my idea sheet I also print out my facebook statuses that get over 20 comments and give them to Santi as part of my idea sheets.

Things my goal chart include:
- Show up no later than 5:50 every morning
-Look presentable every morning
-Make myself available to everyone, get people water of coffee
-Give Santi my facebook statuses as par of my ideas
-Ask Justin if he needs extra help
-Get lost around the office with hopes of meeting something new

My Third Week @ JAMN 94.5

This week my internship was pretty boring. Nothing exciting really happened, but I still enjoyed my time there. I did the regular podcasting and ticket giveaway. I told Justin that I am willing to do something more challenging because I want to be more helpful towards him, and I also want to learn more. On Thursday Santi gave me a project which I completed right away. He had me make a list of the funniest or most entertaining instagram pages that I follow, and also a list with the randomest college iPhone apps that I know. This project was very fun for me as I enjoy things that have to do with social media and technology. I am also still handing in my ideas at the end of every shift. Being at JAMN does not feel like a job, I enjoy my time there and I always stick around for 5 or 10 minutes after my shift is over just in case they need anything. I also always go over to Kiss 108 and make myself available to them.

My Second Week @ JAMN 94.5

My second week at JAMN 94.5 WAS amazing! A few of my discussion ideas were used on tuesday´s show which made me feel very accomplished. If you want to listen to my ideas that went live on the air, you can click the podcast section on JAMN945.com, and find the link that says, ¨The Craziest Thing you´ve Done To Get Back With An Ex¨. The discussion was a success. We got hundreds of phone calls and the public had a lot of feedback.

This was yet another confirmation that the entertainment industry is where I belong. Every week I have one on ones with Santi, and during our last one we discussed many things. He told me to keep up the good work and that he appreciates all of my ideas.

My First Week @ JAMN 94.5

My "wake-me up" at 5:30am
The first week at my internship has been amazing so far! I've only been there for a short period of time and I've already learned so much. On Tuesday Justin gave me an over view of all of my responsibilities as a Production Assistant which I already posted a separate blog where I give details.

This week I did many things. I came up with great ideas for the show, which included topics and discussions that they can have on the air. I created mini biographies on artist. I also podcasted all of the on-air segments and handled the ticket give-aways as I usually do.

What made my first week really amazing was when I had the amazing opportunity to go on live on the air! The topic of the day was about gay people and I I got the amazing opportunity to educate the morning listeners on pansexuals and what it means to be attracted to personalities instead of gender. I was on the air for about 10 minutes. If you want to listen, you can go to jamn945.com and click "podcast", and the title of the segment is "Our New Intern is a Pansexual", I podcasted the segment myself.

I got amazing feedback from Santi after I was on the air, he told me I was funny and that I made him laugh, and he re-assured me that thats a very good thing. I also am now "cool" with Ashlee. I went and got an omelet for her (which I am very happy I did because now I feel very comfortable talking to her), and she even let me use her charger because my phone died. I can't forget to mention the the entire reason why I was on the air was because of Justin. He's the one who went inside the studio and let the team know I was pansexual and open to talking about it on the air.

Production Assistant Responsibilities

This is the building where JAMN is located
As a production assistant intern for JAMN 94.5 I have many responsibilities. Bellow is a breakdown of all my responsibilities as the only intern at the entire station:

Schedule:
Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:30am-10:00pm

Location:
10 Cabot Road. Medford Massachusetts.
I take a taxi there every morning (price ranges from $15-20) and the train back to the Back Bay (only $2.00)

Duties:
  • Podcast all on air segments. This means I have to add all the content that was on the air to the online website and this is also where the iHeart radio content comes from.

  • Manage ticket giveaway. So basically when ever they say the "cue to call" on the air, I have to run to the phones and count for caller 25. I have to take caller 25's information, add it to the paperwork (which will go to the promotions team), and also give the caller's information to Ramiro so he can say it on the air. We do ticket giveaways 2 times during the show on a daily basis.

  • Create mini-biographies. So every morning I have to go on Nextgen, which is a program that shows all the songs that go on the air, and I have to write mini-biographies on the artist that are listed on nextgen. The biographies consist on basic information, such as their age, hometown, recent news such as gossip, ect.

  • Come up with ideas and topics. So if I feel like something in the show sucks, I can write a detailed explanation as to my I think it sucks or why I think it should be changed. If I ever come up with a great idea, I can also write about it and submit it to Santi. I can also come up with cool discussions for the show, and cool topics to talk about. I really think this is where I will get the opportunity to shine and demonstrate my creativity.

  • Create games for the show. Self explanatory. Basically if I come up with any pranks, I can submit then to Santi, and if he thinks they are cool, they will consider doing these pranks on the air.

The Amazing People I Work With!

I am very excited to announce that I am now the new intern at JAMN 94.5. I am working side by side many incredible people. I am looking forward to learning as much as possible from these people who I grew up listening too on my morning drive to middle school, high school, and some college. I am very excited to make connections with these people as I admire their positions and work. This is also the station that I have always wanted to work for in my area. It plaays hip-hop music and is exactly in my comfort zone. Bellow are pictures and mini biographies I created to let you know some of my new co-worker's backgrounds.

Ramiro Torres, who is also know as "The Freaking Puertorican" has literally been working at the station for decades. I grew up listening to him every morning, along side his former co-host Melissa and Pebbles. He is very popular for his Jam Scams and also for being hilarious. He attended New England Institute of Art and initiated his radio career at JAMN as an intern (like me). He worked his way up from being an intern, then hosting nights, then afternoons, and finally in the year of 2001 he became the official host of the morning show for JAMN. He is someone I admire very much as he is considered a minority such as myself, and despite our statistics, he is very successful and has proved many wrong.

Santi Deoleo, who is also know as "Krazy Kulo"has also been working at JAMN 945 for ages. On the air, Santi was known as the crazy stunt man who would do outrages things, often times encouraged by Ramiro. He eventually became the co-producer, and in 2007 he became the Executive Producer of the morning show. Now, since 2012, Santi has put Krazy Kulo to the side and is now on the air as himself, but still continues to talk about crazy things and continues doing crazy stunts. He is also Dominican. His parents migrated to this country (another thing we have in common) when he was 2 years old. He attended Endicott College where he earned a Communications Bachelors degree. He actually started off as an intern (such as myself) in the year 2000, and 14 years later, he is still there. I consider Santi a role model because he has put Dominicans on the map by also breaking statistics, becoming very successful. I look forward to learning from him and I look at him as a mentor.

Ashlee Feldman is a recent member of the morning show. I don't know much about her, except that she is originally from New Jersey, and attended college in Northeastern University, where she was the captain of the woman's basketball team. She was also part of the Real World New Orleans cast. Even though I don't know much of her, I also look forward to working with her and getting pointers. Since she is also very fresh to the radio world, I feel like I can relate to her and I think I have potential of connecting with her on a different level than the guys.

Back in 2012, I interviewed with JAMN 94.5, but I wasn't able to get the internship because with my old college, I was not eligible to receive academic credit because I had already interned somewhere else. The guy who interviewed me for the position was Justin Aguirre, who is now my internship supervisor. Luckily, I kept in touch with him after that interview, and he forwarded my internship to Kiss 108, which is why I think I got  my internship with Kiss 108 during the summer. He is also the one who I am actually working with the most now at JAMN. He also started as an intern and he is teaching me how to do everything. He does all the behind the scenes work and I am looking forward to help him do all the pod-casting, ticket give-aways, and more. He graduated from Salem State University.
